Lipedema Treatment

You Can Get Your Life Back

While there is no cure for lipedema, this fat disorder can be treated and managed so that you get your life back!

“. . . I have felt such a drastic improvement in how I feel. I am able to walk with no assistance. I no longer have pain in my knees, hips, ankles, or lower back. I am not as sensitive to touch. I have become active again and am looking forward to becoming the athlete I once was . . . the doctor gave me my life back, and I will be forever grateful.” ~C.C., Maryland

At this time, liposuction is the only method that we know of to remove the lipedema fat. Diet and exercise can reduce “normal” fat, but lipedema fat remains even after bariatric surgery.

One of the most successful treatments for lipedema is known as Water-Jet Assisted Liposuction (WAL). It is a highly specialized lymph-sparing liposuction that removes lipedema fat. This surgery is medically necessary, not cosmetic.

Water-Jet Assisted Liposuction (WAL) Procedure

Unlike conventional liposuction methods, during the WAL procedure, the surrounding lymphatics, connective tissue, nerves, and blood vessels remain much less traumatized. To optimize results and minimize the risk of complications, this is extremely important in the treatment of your lipedema.

Research shows that lymph-sparing liposuction yields favorable long-term results in the reduction of lipedema pain and in stopping the progression of this chronic fat disorder. (Sources: Cornely et al., 2006; Schmeller et al., 2006; Warren et al., 2007; Rapprich et al., 2011, 2012).

The objective of this type of lipedema treatment is to alleviate your pain and discomfort, increase your mobility, and prevent progression of the disease which can severely limit your daily living. A safe, gentle and effective technique, the Water-Jet Assisted Liposuction procedure:

  • Provides rapid healing and recovery
  • Can be done under local anesthesia, which eliminates the need to put you to sleep. This puts less stress on your lymphatics
  • Decreases the length of time that compression garments are needed to only a few weeks
  • Decreases the risk of surrounding tissues
  • Reduces the risk of complication
